So you want to start learning Salesforce, but you are not quite sure how to start? One of the first things you should do is head over to Trailhead and get yourself a Developer org so you can start playing.
What is a Salesforce Developer Org
Developer orgs are a great free way for you to test your Salesforce skills and learn new ones? Developer orgs a free version of full Salesforce CRM environment along with all the features you would expect. When you are ready to get started, sign up is simple just go to https://developer.salesforce.com/signup fill out the form, follow the instructions, and you are ready to go. This environment will never expire as long as there is some sort of activity every six months. You also have the option to create multiple accounts, all you have to do is create different usernames. If you are using Gmail, this is as simple as adding a + and some text between your username and, e.g., @ username+OrgName@gmail.com
Setting up Trailhead
Trailhead is Salesforce’s online learning tool that lets you learn and collect badges to show off your skills. Some of the modules require you to complete a task in a test environment. You can do this in a standard Developer org, or you can now create special orgs inside Trailhead. The advantage of these is that they come with demo data and settings already letting get started a lot quicker. You can also log in from Trailhead without a username or password. One of the downsides is that you are limited to a maximum of 10 of these orgs, but you can always top up with standard Developer orgs.
Open a hands on module or project such as Build a Mars Communication Uplink
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and select ‘Create a Trailhead Playground.’ It is a simple as that.
